My personal feeling is the disconnect between CCP and the players has got to such a stage, that I no longer want to play the game the CCP created. Recent events have reinforced and confirmed my feelings that CCP is more focused with extracting the very last penny out of me, rather than developing a awesome game.
I totally understand that CCP as a company exists to make money, IÆm not disputing that, however as subscribers to the Eve Online we do expect to be treated fairly, and with a modicum of respect. At the moment I feel like CCP is treating me as a resource to be exploited. There are several reason why I feel this way.
Eve is a premium MMO, and players pay a premium subscription. By paying that subscription there is an expectation that you can access all areas of the game. When CCP floated the idea of using plex to pay for attribute remaps, the community responded with a definite ôNOö to the introduction of micro transactions. Ever since it has seemed that CCP has been trying to work around the community and sneak in MTs whenever possible. The MT for vanity items was unpalatable but seen as a necessary evil in the current MMO market. Even in situations where CCP has back tracked from introducing game changing items for MT; I'm still left wondering at what stage did CCP think the community would find it acceptable.
The draft blog on monetization of 3rd party apps has also angered me. While the draft nature of the blog may have been misunderstood by the community, the tone from CCP has been far from positive. I've developed apps and web-sites for Eve Online, and far from being valued, I felt the CCP thought that 3rd party apps were a problem for CCP and needed to be regulated. The fact that many apps are seen as a necessity to play eve seemed completely lost to CCP. The $99 commercial licence for people accepting donations and covering cost just added insult to injury.
The CQ is yet another example where CCP have not listened to the community. Like many other people, I have unchecked the box to Load Station Environment. While I'm not against CQ, it's not a feature I particularly desired. I'd like to see existing functionality polished and iterated on. I love the new turrets, and I'm looking forward to the new nebula.
When CCP stopped listening to the community, and started to treat us as resource to be exploited, that's when they started down the path to this unfortunate and sad forum topic. CCP has sown the wind by provoking the community, and they will reap the whirlwind.
